WHITE NOISE - This is, technically, sound with a uniform frequency spectrum over a wide range of frequencies. Non-technically, white noise is any unobtrusive background noise, like the hum of a fan, the sound of rain, or a shower. Often white noise is imitated and generated to drown out other obtrusive sounds. For those affected by Tinnitus white noise provides masking and allows Auditory Habituation; a brain function mechanism whereby you will find that Tinnitus becomes less annyoying and over time usually it may not even be noticed at all. White Noise makes Tinnitus less annoying and increases the plasticity of the brain. Play the white noise at a level just below the level of your Tinnitus on a daily basis as often and as much as you wish (2-3 hours per day is not uncommon). White noise is also used to enhance sleep. We also provide for download white noise substitutes such as the sound of rain and wind. These may be used for relaxation, to enhance sleep, soothe infants or for sound masking (for example to cover up urban noise).
Please note - this is broad spectrum digitally created and recorded white noise which has been extensively tested and used by individuals for treating Tinnitus. It is the same type of sound used in expensive ear white noise generators which are often used as part of Tinnitus Retraining Therapy. Do not accept lower quality substitutes where higher frequencies of the white noise have been attenuated or muffled and the recording quality is inferior. Although such CD's and MP3's are readily available on other websites, we have found them less effective at masking and for sound therapy.
